Trying to Keep Up With Technology
When you stop to think about the significant advances that technology has lent itself not only to St. Louis screen printing companies, but almost every other industry, it is just almost beyond comprehension. Who would’ve considered the fact that information can travel around the world at the speed of light going back approximately just 25 years ago? What was then impossible and unthinkable in our wildest imaginations has become now, not only a reality, but everyday way of communicating. It’s such an amazing time to be in business for oneself. There is an old saying that knowledge is power. The point I’m trying to make here is that even though these advantages are currently available, they will only profit you if you are aware of them. It is also crucial that you know how to use them to their maximum potential in order to take advantage of them.
I can remember back when I was a young man growing up and I was doing things like promoting my company by cold calling. I would knock on people’s door and ask if the owner was available. Sometimes he was and sometimes he wasn’t. Often, the secretary or receptionist would try to act like a guard dog and I would have to go into my presentation in order to convey my objectives. This was actually a waste of time and effort because she was not the decision-maker and had no authority to make a decision regardless of what I said or how attractive the deal was. In the event that I was fortunate enough to even catch the manager or owner and at that particular moment, that still was no guarantee that she or he was going to give me the chance to get in front of him and convey my sales pitch. Assuming I was able to get a few minutes of his time, I would start out by simply introducing myself and asking him that the next time they are in the market for some custom T-shirt printing, I would very much like a chance to at least give them a quote to be considered. If I can’t give them a better offer than what they are currently receiving then there is really no reason for them to change. However, since we have never provided any services for them in the past, I would do my best to try and not only give them a quote for what they were looking for, but also try and bring something extra to the table in order to create an incentive as well as a very strong reason for them to give us a chance and get our foot in the door. I would mention that we were extremely proficient at what we did and we would be willing to pay extra attention to their initial custom embroidery order so that they would be happy to refer us to their friends and remember us the next time they were looking for a St. Louis screen printing or digital T-shirt printing company.
